What women often miss in getting results from their workout
As I was talking with some women last week at Addicted Chic’s Flabby Arm Workshop event I noticed a common thread.
Women don’t challenge themselves enough and they are not consistent enough to get the results they desire. This is, of course, a generalization and not all women do this.
When you lift weights, you must work hard enough and feel challenged enough that you can barely squeak out the last few reps.
I’ve seen women use certain weights and erroneously think that because they broke a sweat, that means the weight was heavy enough.
On the flip side, I also see women push through, trying to force their body to move in a way that it’s not ready and believe that “because they can, then they should.”
There is a fine line between pushing yourself and crushing yourself. One creates positive change, the other promotes stress and overuse.
The other issue I’ve noticed is that women (of course not my clients ;) ) are not consistent throughout the month or year.
They lift weights for two months and then skip the next six months. Perhaps not even that drastic. It could be twice a week and then once or zero times the next week and so it goes back and forth. You’ll never see the results you are capable of if you workout like that.
Your weight lifting routine needs to be a life-long thing. I bet you brush your hair and teeth daily. It’s part of your daily routine.
Since Americans haven’t been trained since childhood to value exercise and lifting weights, we don’t see it the same way as brushing your teeth, but it is in the same category of necessary daily habits.
