"Muscles are basically endocrine organs" says Kelly McGonigal, PhD. An endocrine organ produces a chemical…
Does eating your macros in the right order really make you lose weight?
It’s definitely a strategy to help you feel full, get nutrients into your body and eat fewer calories overall, which is an absolute must for women who want to lose excess body fat.
If you’ve been reading my newsletters long enough, you know that protein is the macro most under-eaten by women (at least in my experience and with the women I’ve met.)
Protein is also the macronutrient women need to eat:
- to build lean muscle
- prevent loss of muscle
- feel satisfied with a meal and not hungry and hour later
- has the highest thermogenic effect of all the macronutrients (that means the calories in the food go towards digesting that food.)
So, which food on your plate do you think you should eat first?
You guessed it! Protein!
Start with protein, followed by veggies and fat, then fruit or starch. P.S. you never need fruit and starch in the same meal!
It’s common knowledge that the insulin response is muted when starchy carbs are eaten in the same meal as protein and fat and there is a theory that it may be further reduced if the protein and fats are consumed before the carbs, which might preventing binge eating later on.
Give it a try and see how satisfied you feel afterwards. Get at least 20-40 grams of protein in your meal, eat that first, then go for the fat, fruit/starch.
Eat slowly, don’t read while you eat and chew your food!
