You’re not crazy, you’re in peri-menopause.

In my 40’s I thought I was nuts.

I was certainly exhausted.

Audrey was little. She was two when I was 40, and while I only have one child, I also was a business owner, had unrealistically-high expectations of myself for the time that I had available and other stressors and I thought I was crazy.

Everything, I mean everything, irritated me and at the drop of a pin.

Sound familiar?

If it does, you might be in the throws of peri-menopause.

And you’re not crazy!

When women are in their 40’s the ovaries start to relinquish some of their responsibilities to the adrenal glands.

The ovaries are preparing to retire but they won’t be ready for full retirement for 10-15 years, and they still produce two sex hormones estrogen and progesterone, but not as much as they used to.

And here’s where the problem lies.

Estrogen and progesterone make you feel fantastic!…except when the levels plummet and you can’t focus and you’re  short tempered.

Add to the up and down of your sex hormones a life filled with responsibilities of teenagers, a stressful job, the middle years of marriage, aging parents and other stuff – boy,  it is a lot to handle!

It is no wonder during your 40s and early 50’s you might be cycling between ready to bite someone’s head off,  to wanting to stay  in bed for a week and, maybe, even being super-sweet.

AND, there are ways to manage this time of life.

This is the time of our lives to give ourselves more grace and compassion, you know, the kind we give everyone else.

You might change your sleeping, eating and exercise patterns and habits. This is the time to focus on recovering and caring and to start shifting out of hustle and grind.
