One Habit Can Change How You Feel This Week
Discover three simple habits that make an immediate difference.
You might get stopped in your tracks before you even get started simply because you feel overwhelmed by the sheer number of steps you can take to “get healthy.”
I thought I’d share three things that you can do, starting today, that will make a difference in how you feel and impact your health.
Depending on which habit you choose to work on, you may notice a difference in a day or two!
1. Don’t drink alcohol. Alcohol acts as a toxin that your body has to prioritize clearing from your system. This means your liver, gut, and even your brain shift resources away from recovery and repair. Even moderate drinking can disrupt hormone balance, spike blood sugar, and interfere with REM sleep—the stage most critical for memory and restoration. It’s also dehydrating, which compounds fatigue and inflammation. Taking alcohol out of your daily routine often leads to clearer thinking, more stable moods, and noticeably better sleep within days.
2. Go to bed before 10 p.m. Your body runs on a circadian rhythm, a natural 24-hour cycle tied to light and dark. Critical hormones like growth hormone, testosterone, and cortisol follow this rhythm, and they function best when you’re asleep during the earlier part of the night. Growth hormone, for example, peaks around 10 p.m.–2 a.m. and plays a huge role in muscle repair, metabolism, and fat burning. Missing those hours means missing that benefit. Aim for a consistent bedtime before 10 p.m. and you’ll improve hormone regulation, reduce stress, and wake up feeling more refreshed.
3. Drink half your body weight in ounces of water. Water makes up about 60% of your body and is involved in nearly every physiological process—circulating nutrients, regulating temperature, cushioning joints, and flushing out waste. Chronic mild dehydration is linked to headaches, fatigue, constipation, and even impaired cognition. Over time, it can contribute to digestive issues like GERD and kidney problems. A simple way to protect your energy, digestion, and focus is to consistently drink about half your body weight in ounces of water each day. For example, if you weigh 150 pounds, that’s 75 ounces.
You don’t need to overhaul your entire lifestyle to see results—just pick one of these habits and start today. Whether it’s skipping alcohol, heading to bed earlier, or upping your water intake, each one creates a ripple effect that supports better energy, stronger immunity, and healthier hormones. Small, consistent steps add up faster than you think.
