Scared?

Have you ever thought about going somewhere to exercise, workout or whatever you like to call it, but you were really scared to do it…so you didn’t! ?

Or do you remember your first visit to a gym or working with a personal trainer and you had some butterflies?

I remember some of my first experiences.

High School was probably the worst when I took a weight lifting gym class because, well, it was high school!

College was probably the second next scariest time because I felt stupid not knowing anything and felt like, by that time, I should have. (Another time in my life when I cared too much about what other people thought!)

And finally, the other times I felt scared to workout were at conferences because my fitness peers and colleagues were there and Yikes…I was not as fit as them!

Maybe you are scared for other reasons.

Maybe you are afraid to get injured.

Maybe you are afraid of Not sticking with it and letting yourself down…again.

Maybe you are afraid of what your family will say, or even your friends.

Maybe you are afraid you can’t keep up and for some reason, there’s an expectation that you should be able to “keep up.”

I’ve heard it all…there’s a lot of fear around working out, lifting weights, and committing, BUT…in the end, it is so worth stepping past the comfort zone and going for it!

Women need to strength train:

  1. it’s the best weapon we have against disease!
  2. It’s a way to feel confident.
  3. It’s a huge stress reliever.
  4. It allows you to eat a little more food without gaining fat;)

When you start a workout program, it’s a good idea to have a movement assessment, just like I do at Her Fitness. That way you know what exercises will be safe for you to do and the ones that are likely to cause damage.

It’s also important to feel comfortable in the setting you choose because consistency of training matters so you don’t want any excuses to NOT to go.

The people matter, too. Support for your new journey makes a difference.
