In your 40s or 50s? Check out this number on your blood work

Ben Bikman, internationally renowned scientist, pathophysiology professor and author of Why We Get Sick  shared an easy way to see if you are insulin resistant.

You should care about this number because insulin resistance “is the most common health condition world wide and insulin resistance increases the risk of every chronic disease.”

So….Take out your last blood work panel and your calculator

Divide your Triglycerides by your HDL…that’s it!

You can get a fasting insulin resistance test or a HOMA test, but if you haven’t done that,  use the equation above to get an idea.

The cut off point, according to Bikman, is about 1.5 and it shifts a bit according to ethnicity.

Here are my numbers, as an example:

Triglycerides: 53 mg/dL

HDL: 79 mg/dL

53/79 = .67

Here’s one thing (and certainly not the only thing) that you can do to begin to address this if your number is over 1.5.

Go 12 hours between last meal and first meal the next day.

If you are snacking after dinner and eating your first meal first thing in the morning, stop that snack, especially if you are over 40 (maybe even 35 years). You might feel hungry at first, but drink some water, go to bed and that feeling will likely pass.

If you are concerned about your health and you are post-menopausal, I’m excited to share with you that my next F.A.T. Method program will have two more powerful weeks added to it because I know change can be scary and I want to take away that feeling. We are going to take more time to ramp up into the F.A.T. Method and I’m super excited for this.

I know we are just getting into summer, but if you want a healthier body and mind by September, there’s no time like the present to start! Reply back if you’d like more details.

“I had no idea what I was getting into when I signed up for the F.A.T. Method but knew my mind was made up that I needed to lose weight. On our first call, I was a bit skeptical but the camaraderie among the group was contagious and I was committed. I’m happy to say I followed through and lost 19.6 pounds in eight weeks, feel great, have more energy and am finally fitting into all the cute clothes I have in my closet. Thank you Kevin for your guidance and I highly recommend this program to anyone READY to make a change. *UPDATE: I’ve continued with the F.A.T. Method and I’m now down 28.8 pounds.”  -Stephanie Hutchens
